As the story goes, Nemo got its name when postal authorities rejected the community’s efforts to call itself “Johnson Station,” after local settler Jimmie Johnson. At a public meeting, one man stood up and suggested that the area should be called “Nemo”—Latin for “no one”—because if Jimmie Johnson wasn’t good enough to be the town’s namesake, then “no one’s [name] was.” This neat, little origin story truly illustrates the unique charm of this section of the Granbury metropolitan area!
