There are several rules in this family-centric suburb with a proud historic history. For starters, front-yard fences are capped at 3 feet and must be decorative in nature. Backyard fences can be built up to 8 feet. A fence-building permit will cost you $70.

The city restricts materials to masonry, wood and vinyl that are aesthetically consistent with existing buildings. Downtown masonry must keep with downtown architecture: rock, brick, wood or wrought iron. No chain link.

If your home is backing up to a major street, the city requires masonry screening walls. Other requirements include keeping fences back 15 feet from an intersection for visibility.

Project You’re Really Proud Of?The Splash Kingdom Water Park in Aledo, TX has to be at the top of my list. It was very large in scale and contained a mixture of various fence materials and styles. There were split rail cedar railings, pipe railing and decorative inserts, black vinyl-coated chain link fence and decorative iron gates.
