Irving Fence Permits
This inner-Dallas suburb requires residents to file a permit for any new fence over 50 feet long. Contractors must register masonry fences. The cost to file is $125.
The city caps front-yard fences at 4 feet tall and 50 percent transparency, and other fences at 8 feet tall.
Approved materials include wrought iron/decorative metal, masonry, concrete, stone, chain link, metal tubing, wood planks, vinyl or fiberglass composite. All wood must be cedar or redwood or decay-resistant composite.
The city prohibits string, rope, wire, broken glass, plywood, galvanized sheet metal, and barbed, concertina or razor wire. Further restrictions include limits on fence thickness, visibility triangle adjustments, and criteria on post height and composition.
